Alfred Kingsley Lawrence gained a reputation as one of the leading portrait artists of the mid 20th Century and these two delicate pencil drawings of an aristocratic debutante show his ineffable skill in capturing 1950’s glamour.
Lawrence studied at the Royal College of Art and as a Prix de Rome winner in 1923, at the British School in Rome. He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and Royal Society of Portrait Painters and in 1938 he became a Royal Academician. His works can be found in the National Portrait Galleries in London and Edinburgh and the Palace of Westminster and the Bank of England.
