Rupert Lee (1887 - 1959) was a much respected and close colleague of Paul and John Nash and Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. His works were collected by the likes of Roger Fry and are held in high profile institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A. Towards the end of the 1920's Lee turned his attention to sculpture. He was responsible for organising the important open-air sculpture exhibition on the roof gardens of Selfridges in 1930 and was one of the first to encourage and promote the work of the young Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth.
